Terms of play
Last updated
DraftPlayer accounts are not live yet, and these terms are a draft pending review. They take effect when accounts do.
What this is
Ski With Your Friends is a 3D skiing game made by xyzski. You ski real mountains, rebuilt from public elevation and map data, on your own or in a lobby with up to 8 players. These terms are the deal between you and xyzski while you play. They go with the privacy page, which says what we collect and why. If you do not agree with either, do not sign in.
Who can play
You need to be 13 or older to hold an account. We ask for your birth year once, when you set up your profile, and refuse anyone we cannot be sure has turned 13. There is no parental-consent path here — under US children’s privacy law an account for a younger player would mean collecting their data with consent machinery we do not run, so we refuse instead of collecting.
Voice chat is for adults, and we check it against the birth year you gave us rather than a birthday we do not hold: voice opens on the 1 January after the year you turn 18, so turning 18 mid-year does not open it until then. Everyone from 13 up gets text chat, the mute button, and the report button. The privacy page sets out the same rule.
One account per person. Do not share it, do not sell it, and do not hand it to somebody we have banned.
Free and Pro
Free costs $0: ski Sunlight Mountain, on your own.
Pro costs $8 /mo or $80 /yr — a year is priced as ten months, so two are free. It opens all 58 mountains, multiplayer lobbies, text chat, and proximity voice once the age check above clears you.
The mountain list grows. Pro covers whatever is in it on the day you ski, and we do not charge more when it does.
Paying, and cancelling
Stripe takes the payment. Your card number goes to them and never touches our servers — we hold the customer and subscription ids, the plan, and the renewal date, nothing more.
Cancel any time from your account page. Pro then runs to the end of the period you have already paid for and does not renew. If we change the price, the new one applies from your next renewal, never to a period you have paid for. If a charge looks wrong, email hello@xyzski.com and a person will sort it out.
How to behave in a lobby
A lobby is a small room with your handle on it. Do not harass anyone, do not use slurs, do not spam the chat, do not cheat the game or the relay that connects you, and do not pretend to be staff. Assume a 13-year-old is in the room, because one might be.
Report a player from the roster: pick harassment, cheating, spam or something else, and add detail if you have it. Reports go to a queue a human reads.
When a report stands up we mute the player in text or voice, kick them from the lobby, or ban the account — for a while or for good, depending on what happened. We can also close a lobby or switch multiplayer off entirely. Bans are recorded with their reason, and you can ask us what yours says.
Text chat and voice
Text. 280 characters a message, rate-limited so nobody can flood a room. Everyone in the lobby sees what you type — treat it as public. Messages are kept for 30 days so a report can be looked into, then deleted automatically.
Voice. Adults only on the year rule above, push-to-talk by default, and it fades with distance — ski away and you drop out of earshot. Voice is not recorded, by us or by anyone in the path. That is deliberate, and it is also why a voice complaint is harder to act on than a chat one: mute the player, report the account, and tell us what happened.
What you type and say stays yours. You are the one responsible for it, and you let us pass it to the other people in your lobby and keep chat for the 30 days above. We do not use it for anything else.
Your account, and deleting it
Delete your account from your account page whenever you like. It removes your profile, your handle and your subscription record, and cancels Pro if it is running. Reports and lobby records that mention you keep their rows with your id stripped out, so somebody else’s report does not lose its context — the privacy page sets out exactly what goes and what stays.
We can close an account that keeps breaking these terms. If you think a deletion or a closure got something wrong — including money — email hello@xyzski.com.
The mountains are models, not maps
Every mountain here is a model, built from public data and then generalised so a game engine can run it: elevation from USGS 3DEP across the US mountains; 1 m 3dep_1m on Sunlight Mountain; 8 m HMA on Mount Everest. How fine that elevation is varies from mountain to mountain; each one’s figure is on the mountains page. Trails, lifts and boundaries come from OpenStreetMap and can be out of date, mislabelled, or simply wrong.
Do not use any of it to plan a real descent, judge a real slope, or find your way anywhere. It is not a trail map, not an avalanche tool, and not a safety device. On a real mountain, what is open is decided by ski patrol.
Map data and credits
The map data is OpenStreetMap’s, under the Open Database License, and some of the other layers are Creative Commons. Those licenses require the credit to stay visible, so it is in the footer of every page and in full on the attribution page. It is not removable — not by us, not by you.
What we promise, and what we do not
This is a young product run by a small team. It may go down, it may drop you mid-run, and features can change or disappear. We provide it as it is: we do not promise it will always be available or bug-free, and to the extent the law allows, what we owe you is capped at what you have paid us in the twelve months before a claim — which for a free account is nothing.
What we do commit to is the floor on the privacy page: no accounts for under-13s, no voice for anyone the birth-year check has not cleared as 18, chat deleted on schedule, and a delete button that really deletes.
Changes, and how to reach us
When these terms change we post the new version here and change the date at the top. If a change matters to your money or your account, it applies from your next renewal, not retroactively.
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Colorado, USA — the same as xyzski’s own terms. Questions first: hello@xyzski.com. A human reads it.
